Welcome to Mount's Career Laboratory!

There are a variety of ways that you as parents can get involved in your child's Career Lab, ranging from discussing job possibilities to volunteering to help with specific Career Lab activities.

Parent Involvement at Home

Student registration will take place the week of April 14, 2008. Prior to this, we urge you to sit down with your child and review the exciting workshop options. We strongly encourage your child NOT to register for the same workshop that he or she registered for last year, no matter how much your child liked it. There are so many other wonderful career workshops for your child to experience and enjoy. We are sure it is worth trying something new this time around!

The kids will be able to sign up for three 45-minute workshops. We are asking that the students bring to school six of their favorite workshop choices in case their top three are closed out.

Following registration, you may help your child obtain more information about the professions of the workshops for which he or she is interested and registered. A description of many professions and suggested books, articles and websites have been included in many of the "Details" sections of the workshops.

In general, you can foster your child's awareness of various professions in many ways. You can discuss career opportunities at dinnertime; you can take your child on an outing to observe a specific job in action -- to name a few.

Parent Involvement at Mount

Parents can be involved in the Mount Career Lab on four levels at the school. If you are interested in volunteering your time to any of these activities, please contact Hui Chen at hmy.chen@gmail.com for more information, or submit your contact information online here.

  1. Student Registration at school - Student registration will take place during the week of April 14th in the computer lab at Mount. Parents are needed to help students to register via computer and to help counsel those kids who may find it frustrating if a workshop they want is closed out.
  2. Committee work - There are many committees that need your talent, energy and skill to make the Career Lab successful. Scroll to "2008 Committees" from the 2008 Career Lab header on the Home page. Please contact the appropriate committee chairperson.
  3. Workshops - Parents can become involved in the workshops either as a presenter or assisting a presenter. There are two parent assistants for most of the workshops. Generally you will have an opportunity to choose which presenter you would like to assist. If you are interested in becoming a presenter, please contact Pam Hurst-DellaPietra at phurstusa@netscape.net
  4. Day-of Registration - Parents are also needed to help register presenters, parents and guests on Career Lab day, Friday, May 16, 2008.

We hope you'll take time to volunteer to be part of this special experience. Thank you.
